This is the first in a new series of bass lessons from Mark J Smith devoted to walking bass lines.
Walking bass lines are often seen as a difficult side of bass playing to master. It's hard to know where to start and your mind has to work so quickly that walking a bassline through chords can seem like a high speed obstacle course.
After years of both professional playing and teaching walking bass lines, Mark has devised a walking bass teaching strategy that takes small easy steps in overcoming all of the hurdles that are thrown at you.
In this first introductory lesson Mark takes you through the basic concepts behind walking bass lines like targeting chord tones, arpeggio / scale / chromatic based lines and the other elements of walking bass.
This all serves as an overview before moving into the more specific areas of walking bass lines in coming lessons.
The next lessons will refresh or teach the required chord tones and scale patterns needed to create basic walking bass lines and work through common chord progressions in a variety of keys.
